Hotel du Palais Biarritz

The pool at the posh and historic Hotel du Palais Biarritz, on the Atlantic coast of Southwest France, is large and beautiful, with an elegant arc shape and ocean views.

The pool is located some 50 feet away from the famous sandy beach of Biarritz, so swimmers can enjoy a soundtrack of crashing waves as they swim their laps.

Though the curved shape is not conventional for lap pools, the bottom of the pool features a line of black square tiles to help keep swimmers on course. The "lane" marked out by the black squares is approximately 106 feet, or 32 meters, in length. At its narrowest point, the pool is approximately 35 feet in width, allowing plenty of room for casual bathers to lounge alongside lap swimmers.

The hotel's website describes the pool as being filled with "heated seawater."

The Hotel du Palais Biarritz was originally built in 1855 as a summer resort for Empress Eugenie of France, and has been a hotel since 1880. It is now run by Hyatt as part of the hotel group's Unbound Collection. The imperial luxury of the hotel does not come cheap, with entry-level rooms starting around $600 a night in the summer season.
